A Day at UGA

There's a lot more to this campus and the UGA experience than can be seen on a campus tour. When you visit UGA, plan to explore on your own before or after the tour. Here are some suggestions from the UGA Visitors Center student staff on what to see and do on your day at UGA!

Before you visit, check the UGA Master Calendar to see what events are happening on campus the day of your visit. Or call the Visitors Center at 706/542-0842 and ask our student staff for additional suggestions. Please visit Google Maps for the locations of various campus parking options, places of interest, and campus dining facilities.

  • Downtown Athens

Just across Broad Street from the Arch and north campus you will find what many consider one of the great college town environments in the nation. There are more than 65 shops, more than 55 restaurants, and more than 40 taverns and music venues.

  • Founders Garden

Explore the Founders Garden on north campus. This 2.5 acre garden, a tribute to the nation's first garden club, is a quiet oasis of natural beauty and history just steps away from the Arch and downtown Athens. Many a marriage proposal has been offered in the Founders Garden.

  • Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall

For sports fans, visit Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall for a look back at great moments in UGA sports history. While you're there, stop by the ticket office to see if there are any sporting events you could take in during your visit.

  • Ramsey Student Center for Physical Activities

Walk through the Ramsey Student Center for Physical Activities. This is the home to UGA's Recreational Sports programs and is one of the largest recreational and fitness facilities in the nation. Leave your car at the Visitors Center because it's just a short walk over to the Ramsey Center.

  • Residence Halls

There are more than twenty residence halls at UGA, and at least one hall usually has a show room available. Ask the Visitors Center staff about hours of availability and directions. (A show room is not always available.)

  • UGA Bookstore

Located in the heart of campus next to the Tate Student Center, the UGA Bookstore has a lot more than textbooks. Pay-by-the-hour parking is available in the Tate Center parking deck.

  • Dining Commons

Have a meal in one of UGA's four dining commons. UGA's award-winning Food Services program welcomes guests. It's all-you-care-to-eat, and it's a great way to see inside the authentic UGA student experience.
